Alumni in Action: Taarika Sridhar

GLA encourages its students to stay involved in issues they learned about during their program. Each month, we highlight the efforts of one of our alumni. Have a story to tell? Send us an email!

Student: Taarika Sridhar

High School: American British Academy Muscat (Muscat, Oman)

Taarika participated on the GLA program in South Africa last summer where she volunteered at the JL Zwane Centre. The work of the Centre focuses on HIV/AIDS prevention, Nutrition, as well as an after-school program for young learners.

To raise funds for the JL Zwane Centre, Taarika used her talent as an classical Indian dancer to hold a dance performance on November 7th in her school. She put on an hour and a half long performance, and asked attendees to make a donation to JL Zwane.

Thinking like a true global citizen, she invited the South African ambassador to Oman, and the Indian ambassador to Oman. They both attended, and they were impressed by the performance and the GLA video she showed the audience.

She ended up raising over $2,000 USD for the JL Zwane Centre during this one performance!

Taarika's story exemplifies GLA's mission to empower students to become agents of positive change across borders.
