Snapshots of GLA Programs

Many of you are in the midst of choosing which GLA program to apply to. Here are snapshots of each GLA program to help you decide:

Pune, India

We believe that community service should connect to a country and its people. That's why we don't do manual labor projects, rather we focus on working alongside local people at grassroots organizations. Watch a video about GLA India

Santa Ana, Costa Rica

Beyond the pristine rain forests and windswept beaches, Costa Rica is also one of the most progressive countries in the region. Volunteer with local social service organizations working with children. You'll also have the chance to improve your Spanish! Watch a video about GLA Costa Rica

Fortaleza, Brazil

The northeast of Brazil has not received the benefits of this country's growing economy. Volunteer with after-school programs in poor communities, called favelas , teaching English, sports, arts and crafts, and most importantly, being a friend to at-risk children. Watch a video about GLA Brazil

Tema, Ghana

Immerse yourself in the heart and soul of West Africa. Ghana is rich with culture and history - meet tribal leaders, learn African percussion and engage in meaningful community service. Work will focus on doing educational activities with children at schools, orphanages, and day care centers. th children in schools, orphanages, and day care centers. Watch a video about GLA Ghana

Cape Town, South Africa

2009 will mark the country's 15-year anniversary transition from apartheid to democracy. Although racial segregation is no longer mandated by the government, its legacy exists. As a volunteer you‘ll be part of activities in schools, day care centers and orphanages that are transforming communities. Watch a short video about GLA Cape Town

Tecpan, Guatemala

We are very excited about our new program in Tecpan, a rural community that is home of the Kak'chikél people. We will be looking at how this indigenous community holds on to their culture in the face of rapid globalization. Download a day-to-day itinerary of our 1-week program in Guatemala.
